As if taxes going higher in 2011 wasn’t bad enough, the IRS recently released information from their CID (Criminal Investigation Division) that showed 10-year highs in their enforcement of tax crimes. In 2009, tax investigations increased by over 13% with the number of individuals actually sentenced up over 10%.

Remember, these are CRIMINAL investigations, not your normal audits. However, there are over 2,700 special agents whose only job is to find tax cheats. If you’re concerned about your exposure, please give us a call or email us. Many times, the IRS will work with people that come forward to admit to non-filing or tax aversion issues, but only if they volunteer. Do not expect any leniency if they come knocking on your door, and DON’T try to fix it yourself!
